Origin: Created by demons as an aide for spelling and ley line jumping, they have since evolved to stand on their own.
Lifespan: Immortal with no interference.
Subspecies: None
Ley Line Access: Can tap a line; Can see auras; Can see all ley lines
Day Schedule: Young gargoyles fall asleep as the sun comes up and are active all night, and it takes age and adaption to stay awake in the sunlight
Strengths: Can see all ley lines on a huge radius, gargoyles can naturally jump lines and are often taught by their family and elders how to do so once they are old enough to exercise caution. Have a chameleon like ability where they can change colours/textures to match their surroundings.
Weaknesses: Unable and unlikely to venture off of sanctified ground.
Attributes: Highly superstitious for good reason, gargoyles live on sanctified ground exclusively, usually churches or temples or other religious buildings.
Allies: Witches sometimes accidentally form bonds with gargoyles, but for the most part they prefer to stay outside of political influence.
Enemies: Demons. Gargoyles steadfastly avoid demon reach by staying on holy ground, as demons often snatch young gargoyles to bind them to their aura and get their help as spelling aids, much like familiars.
Full write up: Sourced in parts from various places, including the Wiki entry.
Gargoyles are winged creatures with lion tails that look like they're made of stone, with glowing eyes. Females have yellow eyes and males have red. Additionally, males have black tufts on their tails, while females have white. They like to live on churches and with witches or demons, and they defend their home to the death from invasion.
They can camouflage themselves against any surface, change their shape to fit through narrow openings, and travel by flight or crawling along surfaces--even upside down. Gargoyles can absorb the water in the air to change their size to a certain extent, and can emit heat if necessary.
Young gargoyles are unable to stay awake during the day, and spend it as a stone. A gargoyle will bind to a witch when it matures to adulthood. An unbound gargoyle can move through anyone's circle as if it isn't there. When a gargoyle touches a witch's skin, the witch can see ley lines all around her like a map. Gargoyles are necessary for witches to jump through ley lines at will, for travel.
